⁣After a long and turbulent year, being very sick with a head cold a week before this performance, and having extremely high expectations for myself that I never seem to reach, God is the only reason I have for why I'm still standing & performing. This song is so near and dear to me, but the more I listen to it, the more I glean from it. Regardless of all the issues I have faced, I have such a tremendous peace that is unexplainable. That's nothing but the Holy Spirit. I really hope and pray that this performance touches you. My heart is so full from the love I received after this performance!

Shoutout to my accompanist, Owen Adams, who is absolutely amazing!

Thank you so much for watching and I hope you will like, comment, subscribe, and share!

See you in my next video!

In the styling chair of Rhondra Lashon Harris—known affectionately to everyone as "Shon"—a haircut was never just a service; it was an invitation into a sanctuary of care. Ms. Harris, a gifted cosmetologist whose career spanned nearly four decades in the District, died on March 7, 2026. She was 56.

For Shon, the salon was her studio and the shears were her instrument, but her true medium was the human spirit. While many stylists focus on the trend of the moment, her "superpower" was an ability to infuse her work with a profound, quiet love. Whether she was tailoring a sharp fade for a man or a sophisticated style for a woman, her clients felt more than just pampered—they felt seen.

"Shon's hands were guided by her heart," said her mother, Johnnie M. Harris. "She didn't just want you to look good; she wanted you to feel loved. She would spend hours making sure every strand was perfect because that was her way of giving a piece of herself to the world. She was my daughter, but she was also my best friend and my daily joy."

A 1987 graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School, Shon bypassed the traditional corporate path to follow a calling she felt in her youth. She earned her cosmetology license shortly after graduation and quickly built a reputation as a stylist who could "make it happen" for anyone. Her chair became a crossroads for Washingtonians from all walks of life, drawn to her warm presence and her rare ability to translate their personal stories into a look that gave them confidence.

"She didn't need a megaphone to show her strength or her talent," said her brother, Ronald Harris. "Her work spoke for her. She showed her love through the quiet, steady dedication she gave to her family and our mother. She was the calm in every storm."

Though she was naturally private, Shon's life was far from solitary. She was a woman of deep, modern faith, an online congregant of The First Baptist Church of Glenarden International who turned her smartphone into a tool for ministry. Her "scripture texts" were legendary among her inner circle, often arriving at the exact moment a loved one needed a word of encouragement.

When she wasn't at the salon, Shon found happiness in the simple, refined joys of life—a thoughtful shopping trip to Whole Foods, a lingering meal at a favorite local restaurant, and the unbreakable bond of the home she shared with her mother.

Shon never married or had children of her own, but her capacity for nurturing was limitless. She poured her devotion into her family, treating their milestones as her own and showing her love through thoughtful moments and a constant, supportive presence.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted mother, Johnnie; her brother, Ronald; her beloved family; and a community of friends and clients who were touched by the quiet excellence of her life.
As noted in Revelation 21:4, "And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes." For those who knew Shon, the beauty she created will remain long after the tears have dried—a testament to a woman who knew that the greatest style one can wear is love.

⁣ Thelma Boyd Toler, Architect of Dreams in Federal Government, Dies at 86

Visionary Mentor Who Shaped Careers and Opened Doors for Generations

Thelma Boyd Toler, whose 44-year career in the federal government became a blueprint for aspiring civil servants, died on October 2, 2024, in Rockville, Maryland. She was 86.

Mrs. Toler's tenure as a Small Business Specialist in the Executive Office of the President was marked not just by her professional acumen, but by her extraordinary ability to envision and construct pathways to success for others. She transformed her office into a launching pad for countless careers, earning her the unofficial title of "Architect of Dreams" among those she mentored.

Born on November 3, 1937, in Tarboro, North Carolina, to Josephine Boyd Fields and Al Junius Fields, Thelma graduated from East Suffolk High School in 1955. Her leadership qualities emerged early, serving as class secretary and excelling in both the school choir and basketball team.

In her role at the Office of Administration, Mrs. Toler's responsibilities brought her into contact with multiple First Ladies. However, it was her self-appointed mission to blueprint success for others that truly defined her legacy. She didn't just open doors; she designed entire career structures, helping aspirants navigate the complex landscape of federal employment.

"My mother saw the federal government not just as an employer, but as a canvas where dreams could be painted," said Joel L. Boyd, M.D., her eldest son. "She had an architect's eye for potential, sketching out career paths where others saw dead ends."

Mrs. Toler's blueprint for success extended beyond job placements. She meticulously planned career advancements, strategically timed educational pursuits, and orchestrated departmental transfers to optimize growth opportunities. Her retirement ceremony in 2004 became a testament to her impact, attended by numerous professionals whose careers she had helped design and build.

Outside of her professional life, Mrs. Toler was a masterful architect of community and family bonds. She was an active member of The People's Community Baptist Church and held key positions in organizations like the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Family was the cornerstone of Mrs. Toler's personal architecture. She designed a home that was always open, welcoming a constant flow of relatives, students, and friends. Her greatest pride was in the solid foundation she laid for her three sons: Joel L. Boyd, M.D., Herbert H. Toler, Jr., Ph.D., and Al David Toler, DDS.

"Our mother was the chief architect of our lives," said Herbert Toler, Jr. "She drafted plans for our success that included education, perseverance, and the imperative to create opportunities for others."

Mrs. Toler is survived by her three sons and their spouses, eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and a stepsister, Elnor Stagg.

A memorial service celebrating the enduring structure of Mrs. Toler's life and work will be held at The People's Community Baptist Church on October 10, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the newly established Thelma Boyd Toler Dream Architects Scholarship, dedicated to fostering the next generation of visionary civil servants.
